My 14-year-old cat sighs when resting. Is he in pain or content?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 14 years and 6 months old | 18 lbs

My cat typically purse throughout the day and rolled over to let you rub his belly but when he's resting he lets out the size that signifies some type of pain possibly. His age is 14 he's an indoor cat and he is on a good diet with Blue Buffalo dry senior cat food and wet cat food Pro Plan urinary tract formula. His elimination is good for morning and afternoon and evening no types of constipation. He also drinks water fresh everyday. Thank you in advance for any ideas of what these symptoms are

Sebastian is a very handsome boy! This sigh he's letting out could simply be one of contentment. It sounds like from eventing else you are saying that there are no problems, and he may simply be happy when he's resting, thus letting out a sigh. My cats sigh from time to time, and it's typically when they are happy and rested. I would be more concerned if he was yowling when resting as yowling would be a sound of pain. I hope this helps!

With that kind of vocalization and restless behavior, I suspect he may have a urinary tract infection. I recommend getting him to see your vet as soon as possible, Male cats are especially prone to becoming blocked and unable to urinate. If it isn't urinary, he still may have some underlying medical condition that is making him uncomfortable and restless. Your vet will do an exam and labwork to determine what is causing this behavioral change and how best to treat it.

My cat just started acting like it hurts to sit. Maybe a UTI? I’m not sure he is excessively licking, loss of appotite but still eating some and drinking water still.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Sebastain. I'd be concerned he does have an issue with his bladder such as feline idiopathic cystitis or bladder stones. The big concern is that if he has bladder stones, those could easily block his urethra, which is fatal without treatment. He needs to see a vet for this. If he is very lethargic, tries to urinate but can't, is howling and crying when trying to urinate, only urinates very small amounts, goes to the litter box multiple times, you see blood in his urine, or is urinating outside the litter box, take him into a vet immediately. Otherwise, have him seen by a vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

My 4 month old male cat is moaning and groaning in his sleep. I can't tell if it sounds sad or if he's in pain.
If Millard is completely asleep while moaning he may not be in pain - he could be dreaming or even snoring. If he seems to moan when he's awake as well then I'd be more concerned about pain and would recommend having your vet examine him.

It is possible he has a source of pain and discomfort causing him distress and yes, I would recommend a full physical exam by your vet. Dental and bladder conditions are common causes of pain without obvious injury or sickness in cats and should be ruled out

My cat gurgles while resting not sure if it's purring because he relaxed. He eats and plays and no other symptoms.
If Louis is making this sound only when resting, it could be that he is purring because he's happy and relaxed. I'd be more concerned about it if he was making this sound all the time, and in that case, I'd recommend a vet visit. I hope this helps!

Yes, it sounds like Sebastian is lethargic. His symptoms are non-specific, but could indicate infection, trauma leading to injury, or endocrine/autoimmune disease. I recommend that you have him seen by a veterinarian to help determine the cause of his symptoms. Your vet may recommend blood and urine testing or even imaging such as an x-ray to help determine what is going on with Sebastian.

This sounds like he has an enlarged liver. The liver is near the front of the abdomen and if it enlarges it can cause the symptoms you are describing. It can put pressure on the lungs so they aren’t able to expand normally which can cause difficulty breathing, usually when excited. I would continue with the treatments your veterinarian recommends. An X-ray would show if the liver is enlarged, although there may not be much to do about it with his other medical problems. We do give supplements for the liver but rarely do surgery or other treatments. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Abner.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is normal for cats to sound more nasally when they are purring. My cat and I have heard other cats sound different in these loving situations. If he is not sneezing, doesn't have nasal discharge and isn't wheezing any other time I wouldn't worry! I hope this helps!

It could be nothing or it could be the beginning of a little kitty cold. This may be especially true if you are seeing sneezing, squinting, and runny nose. The good points are that if Tiger is eating, drinking, playing, and using the litter box normally, his overall health is probably good. Hope this helps and best wishes to you and Tiger!

Is it normal for dogs to sigh a lot when they are in a relaxed state laying down?
Some dogs do seem to make sighing noises when they lay down or are resting. As long as your dog doesn't seem to be having difficulty breathing or seem uncomfortable, then I don't think him sighing is a cause for concern. If you feel it is more than normal you could possible do a video recording of the episodes and show them to your veterinarian for evaluation.
