My dog has UTI symptoms. Can pH strips confirm an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 1 year old

I believe my 50 lbs. 1yr. old bulldog has a u.t.i. due to long use of predinisone. Anyway, I just received ph test strips. What range would let me know if it is u.t.i.? The strips ph range are 5.5-8.0, There were no other instructions in the pack.

Unfortunately, you cannot diagnose a urinary tract infection from pH strips. The urinalysis strip that veterinarians use looks for the presence of blood, white blood cells and numerous other things. The ideal pH range for dogs can be 5.5-6.6, but a reading outside that range does not necessarily indicate an infection.
