Why is my senior cat drooling and has swollen gums? Is it serious?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat is drooling and her gums look swollen she is around 17 years old and does go outdoors but sleeps inside at night... I have pictures! I want to know what she has and what's the treatment? Will it go away on its own? Is she suffering? Is it contagious to my other cats? Thank u

Hi there and thanks for posting! Sounds like Tammy may have a dental or oral infection. Treatment will be oral exam, dental cleaning or surgery (if teeth need to be removed), and antibiotics. A dental infection is not contagious, however it is very painful. I would recommend she see a veterinarian soon for this. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
