My dog snaps and won't listen when a female dog is in heat. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 15 lbs

Hello, my name is Hailey and my dog Jack has a little friend that has went into heat but is to young to get pregnant right now. He is non stop hanging around her and won’t listen to a single thing I say. I told Jack to come here and when I went to grab him he just snapped at me, he almost bit me but didn’t. It has made me very upset because this is not the kind of dog that I have raised and he has never acted like this. I don’t know what I should do because I don’t want him to stay in his cage.

Hi there and thanks for posting! I would try and sequester him in a separate area or room if the cage is not an option. The female also needs to be separated from him as well in some capacity. Neutering him will also help solve the problem very quickly :) Best of luck to you!
