My mini schnauzer ate vanilla cake and is now lethargic. Is she okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 17 lbs

17 pound mini schnauzer ate half of a vanilla birthday cake. Now shes laying down and she usually isnt at this time of the day. She is taking prednisone right now for itchy skin.

I am sure that Adele is regretting her decision right now! Vanilla cake contains a lot of sugar, which would easily cause an upset stomach. I would recommend that you not feed any more food for tonight, but leave water out. If she starts vomiting and it lasts longer than 8-12 hours, or if she becomes profoundly lethargic, she may need to be evaluated by an emergency veterinarian for pain medications, nausea medications, and sometimes even hospitalization if she is diagnosed with pancreatitis (which mini schnauzers are prone to getting). If she does ok overnight, then only give her half of her normal breakfast and continue watching for signs of nausea or pain.
