My cat had a blood clot and lost leg use. Was euthanasia right?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My cat got a blood clot and lost use of back legs, she deteriorated so quickly that it went from a limp to dragging back limbs within hours. We opted to put her down but I am having so much regret because mentally she seemed fine. Did I make the right choice?

That is sad news. It's always difficult when you have to make a euthanasia decision. The blood clot was the result of a heart condition. In my experience these cats don't recover the use of their legs and they die shortly after a blood clot episode, from the heart disease. Therefore I believe you did make the right decision since Jill would not have had a good quality of life and may have suffered if you had kept her alive with such a serious medical problem.
