My dog whines when lying down or stretching. Is it an injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 20 days old | 30 lbs

Luna is a rescue and a very "sensitive" dog. She whines easily, in general, and is very clumsy. She has a lanky build, with long legs. Think there's some sheep dog in there. For the past two days she randomly whines when she lies down, and whines while she stretches when she lies down. She doesn't whine when we pick her up, or touch her though. Any idea what's wrong or how we can try to fix it? Thanks.

I am sorry Luna is not acting right and thanks for using pet coach. It is possible that Luna has strained a ligament or even soft tissue. I would recommend restricting her activity for two weeks. This includes being on a leash when outside and no running/jumping. However at anytime if she is getting worse or not improving I would recommend taking her to a vet for a good exam. I hope that helps
