My new puppy has worms. Is it safe for him to be around my toddlers?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 20 days old | 7.5 lbs

We just got an 8 week old puppy Thursday. Friday I took him to the vet to find he has tapeworm, round and hook worms. Should he remain caged since I have toddlers?

As long as he's been dewormed and you clean up after Peso you should be fine having him in a small area of the house. I would wash your children's hands after touching him also. Children get intestinal parasites when there is poor cleanliness. Continue with his routine deworming also. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Peso.
