Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 18 years and 2 months old | 11 lbs

Hi my cat is 18 (a very healthy 18) and has just been prescribed Isathal for conjunctivitis in one eye. His eye is completely fused shut i cant open it to administer droos without bathing it for some time. he is now refusing to eat and getting quite angry and hissing as he is clearly frightened. Are there any further treatment options??

Poor Simba, sorry to hear this! Sometimes cats really do resent eye drops. Be careful that you don't get hurt trying to get them in. You can try using a cool tea bag to soothe the eye and to help get it to open. However I fear he may not let you do this now. The other option would be to get him a long acting Jag of antibiotic, the penetration is not as direct as drops, but it will work. He could also get some antinflammatory medicine to help settle it down.
