My cat's eye has scar tissue from URI. Can it be removed & cost?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | 3 months and 6 days old | 0.5 lbs

My cat had a terrible URI, after a month only one eye cleared up so I went to the vet who told me the other eye wasn't cleaning up because it was actually just scar tissue covering half his left eye and not an infection. But his eyes are still watery and goopy sometimes. Does this truly look like just scar tissue to you? If so how much wouild it typically cost to have it surgically removed?

Poor guy. It does appear to be scar tissue; however a proper eye exam should be done to confirm this. This is not a common thing seen in general medicine and certainly isn't something that every vet is trained to fix. Removal would be entirely dependent on the surgeon expertise and facility in which you will have this done, so we can't quote you on that unfortunately. Your next best step is to take kitty to an ophthalmologist for a consultation exam to discuss what is entailed to fix this and he cost associated with his treatment. Your vet should have an ophthalmologist that they refer their clients to, which he can give you contact information for and then get his records sent over. I hope everything works out for your pet and his eye. Best wishes and take care.
