Dog limping, shaking, breathing differently after sedated nail trim?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 73 lbs

Took my 3 year Old pit bull in for nail trim under sedation two Days ago. Today he’s limping, sometimes not putting weight on back foot, and shaking. Breathing also looks different. Could this be just soreness or something more? Any advice is appreciated.

Soreness from a nail trim is not common. You can certainly inspect the nails for any problem, but I would suspect that something else is going on. You’re in Texas? Have you seen any ticks on him? Tick born infections, injury, as well as degenerative disorders are possible. I would call your veterinarian for guidance, but typically an examination is the best course of action. They may also recommend x-rays or blood work to help find the answer. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
