Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 20 days old | 15 lbs

How can I get my Australian Shepherd puppy to quit biting Golden Retriever’s tail and ears? She swallows her hair, strings from toys and ends up throwing up on a daily basis.

This will take some dedicated training to keep her from doing this. It is especially important to completely remove any toys that can be chewed- up and swallowed, because these can cause blockages and life- threatening complications. Get her some hard toys like nyla bones or kong that can't be chewed apart. To get her to stop biting your other dog, you need to spend some time with them together. Each time she bites your other dog, you say "no" as soon as she starts, then you remove her from the dog and put her in isolation for a minute or so. Make this a big deal when you do this. Keep doing this until she realizes what no means. If you say no and she finally stops, then reward her with a treat right away. This will take multiple training sessions over a few days, but if you do this consistently, then she will eventually get it. I hope that helps and all goes well with the training.
