Why is my betta fish sinking and not swimming after overfeeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Fish | Unknown - Fish | Male | unneutered | 0.1 lbs

My betta has been sinking to the bottom of his tank after being overfed by my friend last weekend. I fasted him for 3 days and gave him a blanched pea to help if he is constipated and has a swim bladder problem. I have also tried an epsom salt bath but that hasn’t changed much. He has also had a bump under one of his eyes for about 5 months but until this past week he was active and doing well. I keep him in a 2.5 gallon tank that is filtered and heated to 78 with a mystery snail and live plants

Bump the temperature up to 80 F. The warmer water may aid in digestion. Continue feeding bits of cooked, shelled green peas until he is defecating normally and regularly. If internal parasites are a concern, PraziPro or General Cure (by API) may resolve the issue. PraziPro is safe for the snails. If you decide to use General Cure, it would be safest to remove the snails during treatment.
