Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 10 lbs
Last night, approximately 12 hours ago, my chiweenie, who is 10 lbs, ate nearly an entire bag of chocolate covered Hostess donuts after researching on this site I decided to just monitor him as I do not have much money and I reviewed other posts saying he should be okay... He has continued throwing up , approximately 10 times. At first it was just chunks of the donuts now it has turned to yellow slimy bile with red which im concerned is blood! He has been fasting eith only water since eating it.

I am sorry Chico is sick. Chocolate at high doses can cause sever gastric upset. I am concerned that the continued vomiting will cause dehydration and issues with kidney function. I would recommend taking Chico to the vet for medications to stop the vomiting and rehydrate him. Also I would start an over the counter anti acid to help calm down his stomach. You can try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice once his vomiting has stopped. I hope that helps and Chico feels better soon

I'm sorry to hear that Lucky isn't feeling great now. While there are some over the counter remedies for vomiting, they are all oral. If Lucky is just going to vomit up the medication right away, it isn't going to do him much good. If you believe he can keep oral medication down, things like prilosec and pepsid are viable options for trying to control vomiting. I can't give you a dose, but you should be able to find this information elsewhere. However, Lucky may have really irritated his whole gastrointestinal tract here if the vomit is starting to look red. Depending on how many times he has vomited already, more than 8-10x, I would not wait and get him to a veterinarian now. He is only 20 lbs and will dehydrate very quickly. If it isn't that frequent, and you find that he is acting like himself tomorrow, not lethargic, still eating and drinking, he may not need a visit. However, if any of those signs are noted, he should be checked for gastroenteritis and/or pancreatitis. Sometimes it takes very little to make their little GI tracks very angry. Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is crucial to have him re-evaluated as soon as possible for a few reasons. One of them is making sure that he has not become dehydrated. Also, it is crucial to check for other reasons for him to still be vomiting as it is unlikely that he is still vomiting from eating the chocolate. I would be more suspicious of a gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or pancreatitis. Abdominal imaging should be performed which may clarify this issue and bloodwork should also be considered. Therapy would be based on findings though at the very least anti-nausea medications can be prescribed. It is also possible that he is reacting to his current medications. Good luck!
