Why is my dog's eye surgery incision still itching after 6 weeks?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 7 months old | 17 lbs

My dog had his eye out and has healed on the out side but it is really itching him I rub it and he really presses down on it to rub it ,harder, it’s been over 6weeks now the vet has put him on steroids and said it could be the internal stitches desolving I’m worried it’s not that problem, please help

I would agree that I think Buster is most likely reacting to the internal sutures. Depending on the type of material used, internal sutures may take up to 6 months to completely dissolve. I have seen many dogs who seem itchy post operatively and it will generally subside with time. I would recommend to call the doctor and ask about using a product such as Cytopoint or Apoquel which may help with the itching. Be careful rubbing the area, it may feel great to Buster but you don't want to cause trauma. Best of luck!
