Why is my cat's mouth swollen, painful, and has an open sore?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 7 months and 21 days old | 9 lbs

A few days ago I noticed the bottom of my cats mouth looks swollen and it’s pinker than normal, if you even touch it or brush it by mistake he ends up meowing like he’s in pain, and now I’ve noticed what looks like an open sore in the middle of it, his chin is also a little bumpy, like how a cold sore would feel

Poor baby. Looks like a pouty lip..lol. it is swollen, has a secondary inf3ction, and an ulcer. These can be caused by a primary infection, contact irritation, insect bite, or an immune mediated condition. Make sure his bowls aren't plastic, and call your veterinarian in the am to schedule an appointment to get it checked out.
