My dog has an oozing bloody spot near his ear. What to do until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 4 days old | 50 lbs

My dog has a spot on his jaw just below his left ear. It is oozing yellow stuff and small amounts of blood. It hasn't gotten any worse in the last 24 hours but it has not improved. He is on an antibiotic for some stomach issue he had last week. I can't get him to his vet until Monday. What should I do in the mean time?

Poor Avalon! I would gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the area as clean and dry as possible, and you may have to put an Ecollar on him to keep him from scratching at the area. You can make an Ecollar at home, and I will put a link below on how to do that. Have him seen by a vet on Monday. I hope this helps! http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
