My dog has a red, raised, pus-filled lump on his leg. Is it infected?

A skin legion appeared on my dogs leg. It’s round, raised, a red and yellow pus. Dog seems normal behavior wise. We were just playing outside.

Poor Zeus! The presence of pus suggests that this skin lesion is infected, and he should see a vet for it. An infected wound requires antibiotics to treat it, which the vet can prescribe. I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for this. Tonight, clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep him from licking at it. I hope this helps!

That looks like an infection. This could be an issue by itself or ir could be related to ringworm (which humans can get) or a foreign object trapped under the skin. Zues needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times and he needs to be examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps.

Sir/Madam, My German shepherd (3yrs old) has some spots (on leg)having dark in colour and fluid is oozing out.(I think it is puss). Around the spot the skin is red in colour. Can you help me ?
Poor guy. You can clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for now. This will help reduce some of the bacteria and help with some of the irritation/redness. I would not recommend any topical ointments on this area however. However, organic honey can be placed in small amounts on wounds like this However, if there is pus as you say, the infection is dep under the skin and requires oral antibiotics to treat effectively. Therefore, it is best to schedule an appt with your vet soon for further care/treatment. I hope that your fur baby Chicku is able to resolve this deep skin infection soon. Best wishes and take care.

That looks like some sort of skin mass on Zeus. It could also be an infected hair follicle. In general, skin masses are benign but there is always a chance it could be something cancerous. You can take him into the vet to get it checked. This is the safest option and the doctor is likely going to recommend to aspirate the mass to look at the cells. Thats the most accurate way to know if it is dangerous or not. Otherwise you need to monitor the mass very closely, if it changes in size then I would recommend to get it checked. An infection could present like this and the lesion may burst. Clean the area gently and make sure Zeus cannot scratch it. It will likely clear up on its own but take him into the vet if it starts looking swollen or is bothering him. I hope this helps!

I just notice a large 1 " strange looking somewhat raised scab on my 6 year old lab Rottweiler mix he's always had allergies and bites and itches at himself but I am worried this looks more like something more serious? It's almost hair follicle sized
It sounds like he could have a skin infection. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at him to determine the cause and prescribe medications to treat. He may need an anabiotic and/or a corticosteroid to help treat.

My female dog that is 14 had looked like to have a ball sack on her back leg. It had been there for maybe a year or two, nothing had happened to it, so my mom and I didn't think much of it. This past weekend it has popped and puss has come out of it.
It could be that Jasmen had a cyst which has now ruptured. If there is pus, however, it means there is an infection and she needs to see the vet. The vet can confirm if it is a cyst, if there is an infection, and can prescribe antibiotics. Give the vet a call in the morning to make an appointment, and gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep her from licking at it, put an Ecollar on her if needed. One of the more common red, raised lumps in young dogs is a histiocytoma. These are benign masses that go away without intervention in 2-3 months. However, Hercules' skin lesion could also be related to a malignant mass, cyst, ringworm, skin infection, among others. Your best bet is to take him to the vet for an exam and evaluation of this lesion - better safe than sorry. I hope that all goes well!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sebastian. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian as he appears to have a mass on his leg. His veterinarian will likely perform a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate to diagnose the mass. He could have a benign growth such as a histiocytoma that is common in young dogs. Unfortunately, an aggressive form of skin cancer known as a mast cell tumor is also possible. The two have the same outward appearance. An infection deep under the skin is also possible. Based on the diagnosis, the treatment will be different. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him to prevent him from licking the area. I hope this information helps!

This morning I noticed a small pimple at my dog's genitals. By the afternoon this became much bigger and was filled with puss and blood. Is it something serious or just a skin irritation/allergy?
It sounds like this pimple is infected if it's filled with pus and blood, and Aris should see a vet for it. Do not pop it yourself, as you will introduce more infection into it. The vet can drain it sterilely and can give him antibiotics to treat the infection.

Hi, my Australian cattle dog has a pussi looking cyct on the forskin of his penis almost next to the hole for urination. Why? What must I do?
If this lesion is filled with pus, then it's not a cyst, it's likely an abscess which is a pocket of infection. I would have Zeb seen by the vet for this, as if it is an abscess, it will need to be drained and flushed sterilely, and he will need antibiotics for the infection. The vet can diagnose if he does have an abscess, and can treat him for it.

I found this raw round circle on my dog's hind leg tonight. He has been acting normal in personality and appetite. It looks like maybe there is a small puss pocket with a black speck in the middle.
I would worry that is a precious bite wound from a spider or something or a tumor or cyst that is infected and has a necrotic center. Try to stop in from licking it and clean it with soap and water to rinse the pus off. You can place neosporin to help prevent bacteria and dirt from getting inside. This will buy you time to get to your vet for further testing to see if surgery is needed or just antibiotics
