Is breeding my 6-year-old tripod Yorkie safe for her health?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 6 years old | 15 lbs

My Yorkie lost a front leg 2 and a half months ago, due to a her and another dog having territorial issues while on a walk. I wanted her to have only one litter but I wonder now if it would be too hard on her now. She is about 15 lbs, just right for her size, and very healthy otherwise. She just turned 6 years old this month.

Mating might be difficult for her as she will have to stand on 3 legs and support the weight of a male on top of her. There will not likely be any changes or hardships during the birthing process, but the extra weight of a pregnancy can be harder on her front leg to support. While 6 is not old for small breed dog it is getting towards the end of healthy breeding though. I would not likely breed her due to these circumstances and have her spayed to prevent any future infections and risk
