My cat is sneezing and has brown paws. When should I see a vet?

My cat has been sneezing a lot and has a browny stain on the paws where he has been rubbing his nose. Does he need to see a vet or will this clear up on its own. Travelling stresses him so i like to avoid unnecessary trips. Many thanks

This sounds like an upper respiratory infection, or cold. Since this is a viral infection Looey will get better without treatment in a week or so. If he stops eating or there is green eye or nose discharge then he probably has a secondary bacterial infection that would need a veterinary exam and most likely antibiotics. Please keep his nose clean and you can warm wet food and put some extra water in it so he eats better and has extra fluids. Lots of rest too is important. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Looey.
