My dog follows me everywhere. Is this normal dog behavior or concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 5 months old | 4 lbs

Is it normal for your dog to be always around you? Lately I've noticed that Bella has been following me around and likes to sleep peacefully close to my back or on my feet. Is it normal for her?

It can be normal for a pet to become more attached to their owner, especially if there is a life event (recent move, recent family addition, change in work schedule, etc) that occurs. Dogs are true companion animals whom often grow attached to their owners. As long as Bella doesn't have any symptoms of illness such as vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy or diarrhea then I wouldn't be concerned that this is anything more than Bella showing affection.
