My senior hamster is dragging a hind leg. When should I see a vet?

My 2.5 year old Syrian hamster started dragging one of his hind legs. He does not appear to be in pain. It is intermittent, sometimes he uses the leg (but both legs are weaker now than they used to be). Should I take him to a vet or just leave him be as at this age the stress of visiting a vet is a major concern? If this is something that is easily sorted out by administering some meds I would be inclined to get the problem sorted, otherwise it would probably be kinder to leave him alone?

Hi there. I think it is unlikely that the problem will be solvable. However, more importantly do you feel he is in pain? If he shows signs of pain or if you think his quality of life is diminished then I would recommend that he be evaluated by a veterinarian. At that time you can discuss pain management as well as quality of life questions and decisions. Good luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
