My sick cat is hiding and won't eat. Should I offer food or wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 12 years and 1 month old

My tabby is obviously sick. She won't eat and is hiding in the closet. Her eye is dilated and her third eye is showing. The vet ran a full senior blood work and it came back negative. Next step is ultrasound. Should I move her and try and get her to eat or leave her alone?

I would try tuna or canned food or something special for her and bring the bowl to her. I would offer her some and if she does not eat then place a small amount in her mouth and see her reaction. If she slings or drools and overly disgusted by it, then I would stop and let her be, you don't want to create any food aversions for the future. if she swallows it then you can try a little more.
