Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My yorkie hasnt gone in heat yet and is almost a year old.. can she gone in heat without me noticing? Does the vulva always enlarge or can it remain the same size in some ocations? In case i missed the bleeding..

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes it can take a few more months for female dogs to come into their first heat. Other times a heat cycle can go unnoticed and is called a silent heat where the typical signs and symptoms of estrus in dogs are not very noticeable if at all. I would wait a few more months to see if she comes into heat. She may just be a late bloomer! Hope this helps- thanks again!
