Is peppermint oil spider repellent safe for dogs in my apartment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

I live with my 60 lb dog in an apartment and have noticed a few spiders around. I read that a mixture of water, vinegar, and peppermint sprayed near doors and windows was a good, non toxic way to deter spiders since it seems most commercial pest sprays are dangerous for pets. However I also saw some debate over if peppermint oil was toxic to dogs or not, but it was mostly about direct use or ingestion. So my question is if it is safe for my dog if I were to spray this mix around.

Peppermint and vinegar may cause some digestive upset if ingested, so as long as Clark isn't eating/licking the area you spray I don't think it would be harmful. If you'd like to take an extra precaution, you can spray the area and keep him out of the room until it has dried (15-30m) just to be extra safe.
