Can I give my puppy honey if she's sick and not eating enough?

If I give the puppy honey is it certain she’ll get better and if so, how long would it take? She’s already been seen by a vet and was tested and the cause is from not eating enough.

No, I would not give Skyy any honey at all. It is never recommended to feed to puppies because their immune systems are unable to cope with the potential presence of botulism spores in it. In addition, honey will not help cure medical illnesses or make her eat more. She needs to be fed a high quality puppy formulated food only. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams.

Congrats on your new puppy, Honey is very cute! No, it is not right to feed her milk, especially cow's milk. Dairy productions should never be fed to dogs due to GI upset, and milk alone is not a balanced diet for a puppy. It will not be providing her with the nutrients she needs to grow properly. Puppies need higher amounts of protein, calories, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give that to her. It may be that she isn't used to puppy food yet, and I can give you a method to try to get her used to puppy food. To help her get used to puppy food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only.

Hi! Can i give my puppy a cerelac meal that's actually for human babies? Is it fine? My pup is sick and won't eat any so i was wondering if cerelac would be fine?
Please make an appointment to have Star seen by a veterinarian to help determine the cause of her symptoms. In the mean time, you can try boiling boneless skinless chicken in water, shredding the chicken, and feeding Star small amounts of the resulting chicken broth and cooked chicken with some boiled white rice once it has cooled. You can also try offering her cooked extra lean ground beef and boiled potatoes. These bland foods may help settle Star's stomach. I don't recommend the cerelac, as sometimes the flavourings added can upset a dog's stomach. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!

My 8 wk old yorkie wont eat
She’s tiny, she could have low sugar or hypoglycemia. This can become life threatening. Please give her a 1/2 teaspoonful of honey or Karo syrup. You can rub it into her gums if she won’t lick it. I would try to have her eat small amounts of small breed puppy food at least six times daily until she’s bigger and stronger. I got an 5 week old labrador he cought fever vomitings and diarhea today i took him to vet he gave him an injection and said that give puppy cerelac but he isn't eating anything or drinking water please help please its urgent.
Hello. Better than the Cerelac, you want to use a syringable product like Hill's a/d or Purina Critical Care. If your vet does not carry these, then you can purchase pureed meat baby foods as long as there is no onion or garlic. If you cannot get this, then take any canned dog or puppy food & puree it at home in a blender adding just enough water that you can push the food through a syringe without the food blocking things up. Until your puppy can eat on its own, you can give 1 cc (ml ) every hour. This is just a tiny amount of food that hopefully Goofy will not throw up. You should also syringe a couple of ccs (mls) of water every hour, too. If any of these small amounts still cause the puppy to vomit, he will probably need to be hospitalized for intravenous fluids & continuing medications to control the nausea & vomiting. But if he will hold down these tiny amounts for most of the day, you may be able to nurse him through this. Good luck & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Rub honey on her gums. There is no set amount, rather she needs as much honey as it takes to alleviate the signs of hypoglycemia and starts suckling, I would start with a rub, then wait 10 to 15 minutes, then rub in more, and keep it up until she feels better. Ring your vet office now. There should be emergency information on the answering machine or service. The RCVS dictates that vets provide emergency service either themselves or refer to one.

My puppy won't eat. It's been a couple of days now she is losing weight. Is there anything I can do at home for her?
Ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any illness or injury. As long as she is behaving normally though, you can try warming her food, adding in a bit of baby food or adding in some warm water. You can also offer unflavored PediaLyte. If she is lethargic, vomiting or has diarrhea, then she should definitely be seen by a veterinarian.

We have an 8wk old chihuahua going to the vet on the 15th but we're concerned she isn't eating enough dry dog food to sustain her when she only eats a few bites. Is a small amount of meat flavored baby food ok?
I can certainly understand being concerned about your puppy not eating enough. It's really not the best for for your puppy, as it's not formulated to meet her nutritional needs. It's not something that is recommended to give to a puppy on a regular basis, usually only when the animal is sick. In addition, there may be ingredients in the baby food that is not safe for her to ingest. It could be that she isn't used to dry dog food, and you can try making a puppy mush for her to see if that helps. I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until she is eating the dry puppy food only. If she still doesn't want to eat much, then I would have her seen before the 15th.

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would recommend offering a variety of food types and try dry or canned dog food to find which one Idalia likes best. You can also try and add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora to her food, as this can enhance the flavor of the dog food. Yogurt does not provide any probiotic benefits for dogs as the bacteria is much different for dogs as it is in humans. Fortiflora can be found online quite easily. Poor girl. I would try some wet food such as Hill's Science diet or Eukanuba as an alternative. You can try mixing it first to try to avoid stomach upset. If she is also acting ill however, she needs to be seen by your vet to have her checked out to determine the underlying issue there. Try giving her some treats for now to make sure her glucose levels stay up. Small soft puppy treats are advised so that she can easily eat them.
