My dog's ruptured anal gland: Why is she still licking with a cone?

my dog had ruptured anal gland and was put on antibiotics she is still trying to lick herself but we have a cone on her is this normal

Yes, this is normal. She is likely painful. You can request pain medication for her from your veterinarian if none was dispensed. Keep the e-collar in place until she heals. Excessive licking will delay healing and may introduce more infection.

    Yes, that is pretty typical. The area is both painful and itchy. It can take several days for this to resolve as the infection gradually goes away. You are doing the right thing by keeping her from damaging the area more by using the "cone". She will be better soon!
