My cat is hissing at her spayed sister. How can I ease their stress?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 9 lbs

Our roommate got her Bengal mix spayed yesterday. She and our Bengal mix, Gizmo, were born from the same parents, in two different litters born 4 months apart. They both came to live with us when they were fully weaned and have been absolutely inseparable, after DeEtta got over her initial stress over being in a new place. After DeEtta was spayed however, Gizmo has been very stand-offish, growling and hissing whenever DeEtta gets close. What can I do to ease the stress?

Gizmo can likely smell the vets off of DeEtta, she will think this is very odd and be unsure. This should only be a temporary situation and should resolve with time. You could try using a feliway diffuser to help settle them.
