Does my indoor-outdoor cat need deworming if I don't see worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 10 lbs

My cat is an indoor-outdoor cat. I haven’t gotten her dewormed in maybe about 6 months. I do make it a thing to look at her poop (whenever she actually uses the litterbox since most of the time she goes outside) and I haven’t seen any worms. Assuming she doesn’t have any worms should I just go to my vet and pick up a dewormer or is there a special dewormer I need to get for her?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she does not have any worms or clinical symptoms associated with it such as diarrhea, then you do not necessarily need to deworm her. If you ever notice she has diarrhea or actually see worms, have her evaluated by your veterinarian but you are good for now. Good luck and have a good day!
