Why is my new mom dog weak, not eating, and ignoring her puppies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 60 lbs

Could it be eclampsia? It's nkwm5 weeks Lion-Girl gave birth. She has suddenly stopped eating and breastfeeding with zero interest in her 7 pups. Shes weak, losing weight and hides away. I noticed this 3 days ago

This does not sound like eclampsia. That typically presents as an emergency with symptoms of collapse, severe trembling and weakness. This sounds like more of a slow process and there can be many causes ranging from an infection in her uterus, mammary glands, a gastrointestinal issue, or other generalized infection. I would recommend an exam by her veterinarian to try to pinpoint which system is affected and what is going on.
