My 5-month-old kitten has runny, green stool on meds. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 lbs

I rescued a 5 month old kitten a little over a week ago and took him to the vet for runny stool with some blood. They said he did not have any parasites from the fecal and prescribed him different gastrointestinal medicines. He had been taking these meds for a little over a week and his stool is still runny and is also a greenish tint. Should I stop giving him the meds and take him to the vet? Does this sound like a serious problem? He acts just fine and is very playful and loving.

Hello, sorry to hear about Boston. You should continue to administer the medications until directed otherwise by your veterinarian. Before stopping the medications, Boston should be assessed by your veterinarian and they may decide to stop the medications or try different ones. The diarrhea could be secondary to another disease (inflammatory bowel disease) which may also require further testing and alternate medical management. Hope this helps and best of luck.
