Why is my old cat's pupil jagged, dilated, affecting night vision?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | RagaMuffin | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

My male cat who is probably 13 years old has a jagged edge black pupil in one eye. it is also little more dilated then the other one but not fully dilated. there is a laciness in the colored area in the same one eye. Lately he has a little trouble seeing in the dark. He is not in any pain and eating and sleeping well and happy. There are no injuries to the eyes at all. This condition just showed up after 5 years . He was a rescue cat and his past is unknown

Hello, I agree that Buddy's left pupil appears more dilated than the right. This could be associated with age related atrophy of the iris (makes up the pupil). However, cats can get cancer of their eye and this it would be best to have him evaluated to ensure there is not mass growing behind the pupil and to rule out other potential abnormalities within his eye. Hope this helps and best of luck.
