My budgie is lethargic with ruffled feathers. What can I do at home?

My friends Budgerigar parakeet names Muffin is acting lethargic and sitting still with ruffled feathers. Unfortunately her mother doesn’t see the urgency and won’t let her take it to the vet, but we’re very worried about it’s condition. Is there anything we can do to help Muffin ourselves?

All you can do it home is keep the bird warm in a quiet environment. Encourage it to eat with tasty things. I would always recommend taking a ruffled lethargic bird to the vet as it is usually the first sign of illness such as respiratory infection. Birds need to be treated promptly to have success.
