My blind senior dog's eye is turning blue/grey. Is a vet check needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 13 years old | 17.5 lbs

Our 13 year old dachshund went blind due to SARDS about 3 years ago. She's blind in both eyes. Her left eye is now starting to turn blue/grey. Do I need to get her checked?

I would have her eye pressure checked as this can be from a cataract or she could develop glaucoma with increased pressure that can be painful. She may or may not need medication. I alway like to check changes in the eyes just to make sure it's just an aging change and doesn't need treatment.
