My dog has raw, red skin after matted fur removal. Is it a hotspot?

Hi I just removed a quarter sized matted area on my dogs chest. It was very close to the skin and felt a bit caked. Once I started opening it up I revealed raw red skin and dried crusties. I washed the area with warm water and the dabbed it with peroxide which did foam up a little around the edges where there was still crusty stuff on the fur. Do you think this is an injury from the matting or do you think it’s something else?

It looks like a hotspot. There is no way to know which cause what. If there was a bite of some sort then she could have scratches and made the fur mat over that area. If the may was started it could have pulled the hair to make her bother her skin. Usually the first is more common though. You have done well so far, I would add cortisone cream and alternate with neosporin in the area. If it still bothers her and does not get better within a day or so then she will need to be seen by your vet
