My vaccinated dog was exposed to kennel cough. Can he spread it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 9 days old | 57 lbs

If my dog was exposed to puppies with kennel cough, even though he got the vacccind against it, does he still carry a risk of spreading it to other dogs that don’t have the vaccine? At like the dog park or friends houses?

The vaccine does not cover against every kind of organisms that can cause kennel cough, so your dies have a possibility of contracting it. But your dog can only spread it if infected. Just because your was exposed does not mean he is a carrier or contagious to other dogs unless he is showing symptoms
