Why does my new 9-week-old puppy have on-and-off diarrhea issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | unneutered | 2 months old

My 9 week old puppy has had diarrhea (soft serve consistency) on and off for the last 5 days since we've had him. He is unvaccinated (he has an appointment scheduled in a few days) but he was wormed 2 days after we received him. It's very inconsistent, and will firm up and then soften and harden and soften throughout the day.

This maybe stress induced from a new environment and routine changes. It can be food related if the food was changed from each house. You can add a probiotic to the diet to help and add boiled chicken and rice. If he is eating and drinking fine, no vomiting and playful then you can what until your appointment. If you notice blood in the stool then I would I take him sooner
