My canary is twitching, disoriented after cleaning. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

My canary always freaks out when we cleans her cage and often sits in the bottom for a little while and then is fine. Today we did the exact same thing and a little while after she had started twitching and is disoriented. I am unable and to get her to a vet due to location.

She has possibly gone into shock and could be feeling very weak. If you cannot get her to a vet I would recommend leaving her alone with no disturbance to let her settle. Make sure she is warm. It would be worth offering her some sugary to treats to try and perk her up. Try and avoid handling her as any major stress now could cause her a heart attack. There could be an underlying medical issue but I understand you are limited in what you can do vet wise.
