My dog has worms coming out of his belly skin. Is this possible?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

It looks like my dog has protruding worm like things coming out of the skin of the dog in the belly. Could this be worms? Can they protrude thru skin?

There is a parasite called a cuterebra that looks like a large maggot or grub that can be in the skin. These should be removed by a veterinarian. That is about the only worm I can think of that would come from the skin. What you are seeing may not actually be worms. If you can attach a few pictures to a new post with your question, we may be able to identify the issue. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/cuterebra-or-warbles-in-dogs
