Why do some cat owners delay vet visits for sick cats, asking online?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 3 months old | 16.9 lbs

Simple question: Why do people with obviously sick cats ask questions on line, and wait for an answer, rather than taking the cat to a vet? I wouldn't treat my child or my animal as if illness was something that could "wait"! What's up?

Well the truth is that some people don't want to spend money on a vet visit if they think they can get an answer for free. And unfortunately they often ask people who have no veterinary knowledge or training, and that can lead to great harm to their pet. It's sad really, and unfortunate for the cat. You are doing absolutely the right thing by not treating your cat like that, and it makes you an excellent cat owner. Keep up the good work!
