Why do other dogs act aggressive towards my sick dog on walks?

My Maltese dog is sick with kennel cough, and as we were walking in the street going to the vet, 2 other dogs he normally plays with started growling and barking at him as though they wanted to bite him. What could be the cause of this? Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | unneutered | 1 year old

It is not unusual for dogs to pick on a weak, ill or injured part of the 'pack', unfortunately this is natural instinct to keep the group as healthy as possible. Please be aware that kennel cough is extremely contagious and you should isolate Roscoe to prevent spread for at least 10-14days
