my chiwawa? (sp.?) has a dry cough...allergies...eating well, happy...my vet put her on expensive narcotics. Must be something else. Can't afford it. Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 6 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

There are other options for chronic coughing. You may want to discuss antihistamines and or cough tablets (non-narcotic) with your veterinarian. Narcotics do work very well for suppressing cough, and sometimes they are one of the only medications that make a big difference, but discussing and trying other options isn worthwhile.
