Why is my cat acting strange, not eating, and hiding under the bed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 8 lbs

My cat is acting strange, would not eat his wet food , even when I took him to it. He is usually begging for it at 5 pm. He has crawled under the bed now- something he never does.

If Major had not been urinating or had been in and out of the litter box a lot then it’s possible he could have a urinating blockage which is an emergency. If he is urinating normally but not eating I would still recommend a vet visit tomorrow. Hiding is something cats do when sick. There are any number of things that could have an older cat not feeling well including dental disease, renal disease or other organ dysfunction. I hope Major is better soon.
