My senior dog with CHF has slimy diarrhea & cough. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Wire Fox Terrier | Female | spayed | 12 years and 8 months old | 12 lbs

My 12 year old wire haired fox terrier is in CHF, confirmed by her vet. Today she started having diarrhea that is yellowish, and very slimy. She also has coughed a couple times when resting. I can't get her into the vet today because they have no openings. She is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Should I wait or take her to the emergency at vet?

You didn't mention if she is on heart medicaiton currently or not; however, I would either take her to your ER vet or to your regular vet as a walk in emergency appt. Spunky sounds unstable and should be looked over by a vet right away. They may be able to help stabilize her condition. Best of luck to you both. Take care.
