Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old
Nexguard made my Yorkie violently ill yesterday. I have tried other meds and they do the same. Any suggestions for an alternative? Also his red blood cell count is high. How can r get it down?r

If Oliver is unable to tolerate any oral flea medication then I would recommend using a topical one like Advantage Multi. You may also consider a Serestro collar as an alternative to oral flea meds. As for the elevated RBC count, this rarely indicates a problem unless you dog is acting sick. It can be due to dehydration or a rare disease called polycythemia. If your vet is not concerned about the values then you should have nothing to worry about. If you have more specific questions about the blood work you may want to consider a consult so we can see the lab results in their entirety and discuss it. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
