My dog is bleeding from his penis and passing blood clots

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Based on your history that you have provided I would recommend that a veterinarian examine Henley. The origin of the blood may be from the bladder due to a urinary tract infection or bladder stone. I also see that he is not neutered and unneutered male dogs can develop prostatitis or an infection of the prostate. For Diagnostic testing I would have his urine checked for evidence of a urinary tract infection and if that is normal I would suggest having an ultrasound done of his bladder and prostate. A course of antibiotics such as Baytril and an anti-inflammatory such as rimadyl may be beneficial in the treatment of this. If he has recently tied with a female this may have also caused a bit of trauma. In any case, the sooner you have this looked at the better. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor Blue! It is not normally for such a young puppy to be bleeding from his penis, and he needs to see the vet immediately. He could have a bladder infection, bladder stones, or could have suffered trauma to his penis. The vet can diagnose what is causing the bleeding, and can treat accordingly. Please take Blue into a vet now.

He could have a bladder or prostate infection, bladder stones, clotting disorder, or a tumor. He should be examined by your vet to determine the cause. Your vet can test a urine sample, run blood-work and/or take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He may just need an antibiotic to treat an infection. It is unlikely two make dogs had intercourse between them.

Hi there. The most common cause of blood dripping from the penis in a middle-aged or older intact male is BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy). Other possible causes would include a bladder or prostate infection, bladder stones, a systemic bleeding disorder, or some type of trauma to the penis or urethra. I would recommend taking Oso to the vet for an exam for this issue when you are able to. He/she can do some diagnostic testing if needed to find out for sure what is causing it. If the bleeding is due to BPH, neutering will generally resolve the problem.
