My puppy is restless at night, chewing. Are his teeth the problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 19 days old | 26 lbs

For the past week my 6.5 month old puppy has begun waking up in the middle of the night and spending 1-2 hours being restless. To my wife and I, it appears he's in pain or distress of some sort and feels the need to chew like he did when he was teething (he's had his adult teeth for at least 1 full month prior to the start of this). We have noticed that right behind his bottom canines there seems to be small bony bumps - like teeth that haven't grown in. Is it possible that this is the problem?

It is difficult to know without examining him. He could have a problem with his teeth or maybe he is nauseous from an upset stomach. The best thing would be to have him examined by a vet to determine if he has a problem and then treat. If he is experiencing pain, your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory to help relieve any pain and inflammation. If he is having stomach/abdominal issues then he may need an anti-nausea medication and a gastrointestinal protectant.
