My senior dog has spreading skin crusts. Could it be maggots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 15 years and 5 months old | 21 lbs

cocker spaniel who is 15 years, has crusts that look like little white worms crawl out and spread it to another area. Now it is generalized. She rubs her chin and face. Does she has a type of mange? It is a skin disease of some type. It started on her rump and is now all over.

Oh goodness. That sounds really uncomfortable. It sounds like she really needs to see a veterinarian. The white worms you are seeing may be maggots in her infected skin. This could potentially become sepsic and be fatal. Please have her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope she improves quickly.
