Why is my budgie's foot limp? Is it bumblefoot, broken, or injured?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

My budgie won't place his right foot down. He holds it limply up and won't put it down for more than a couple seconds. I am worried he may have injured it by falling or gotten bumble foot. What should I do? He keeps loosing his balance and falling from his ladder cause he won't use the foot. I examined the foot and it is limp and he wouldn't grip with it like the other one. Do you think it could be broken, bumble foot or just sore from falling?

Bumblefoot is very common in these little guys unfortunately, and there is no way to know for sure without seeing Puff. This would be my first guess. He really needs to be examined by a veterinarian, and likely needs to be on antibiotics and potentially a pain medication like Metacam. Hope that helps!
