My dog has accidents by the back door. How can I get her to warn me?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 14 days old | 10 lbs

So we just got a dog from a family friend. She is 10 months old, she is for the most part potty trained, but she occasionally poops or peed right by the back door with no warning. How can we stop her from doing that or get her to warn us?

Luna likely has not been trained to let you know when she has to go outside, so you will need to figure out a way to do that. The most common way people will train this is to use a bell on the back door that you ring each time you go outside. The goal is to get Luna to go to the door and ring that bell when she needs to go outside. I have included a link below with some instructions for this protocol. http://www.petexpertise.com/dog-housetraining-bell.html Good luck! I hope that was helpful! Thanks for using PetCoach.
